If you are a practitioner of any kind (e.g. clinical psychologist, family doctor/GP, counsellor, psychotherapist etc), you may be aware that men are less likely to seek help than are women. Although it is popular to blame men (or masculinity) for this situation, there are other – possibly more helpful – explanations. For example, it could be that men experience different barriers to seeking help than women do, and it makes sense for us to try to understand such barriers better.Male Psychology is a new field which adds an important dimension to our understanding of human nature, and can be helpful in making sense of phenomena as well as helping us find solutions.
